The National Bank of Canada is a commercial bank with headquarters in Montreal. It is the sixth largest bank in Canada, and currently has over 2.4 million personal customers. It has branches in most of the Canadian provinces, and offers a network of 453 different branches and 937 ATMs throughout the country. Most of its services are concentrated in Quebec, although it also operates in a few other countries and is making efforts to expand throughout the other Canadian provinces.

The National Bank of Canada was founded in 1859 by a group of French businessmen. It expanded quickly during the 1970s, when it merged with the People’s Bank and Unity Bank of Canada. It also acquired Laurentide Financial Corporation of Vancouver in 1979. Later that year it merged with Provincial Bank, and took the name “National Bank of Canada.” In 1994, the bank expanded internationally by opening two branches in the United States, one in California and one in Florida. It also has a small regional office in Cuba.

Today, the National Bank of Canada continues to expand its wealth management sector by acquiring several brokerage firms and providing financial services throughout the country.
