Michaels Store is a privately held chain of over 1200 outlets across Canada and America. The retail chain Michaels is an arts and crafts business and is one of North America’s largest providers of do-it-yourself home decorations, where you can find framing, floral, wall décor, arts, and crafts.
Founded by Michael J. Dupey in 1973 in Dallas, Texas, Dupey began his business by converting his Ben Franklin five-and-dime store into a craft, arts, and décor store. By 1982, the company had 11 outlets and was pulling in annual revenue of $10 million. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Michaels acquired craft stores across the Pacific North West, Midwest, and Northeast.
In 1995, Michaels acquired Aaron Brothers Holdings Inc., a store specialized in the supply of framing and art. By the following year, Michael’s Stores had 450 outlets and was pulling in annual revenue of over $1.2 billion.
In 2008, Michaels opened its 1000th outlet, and today, the 1252 outlets under their name pull in total annual revenue of over $5 billion. In April 2021, the stores went private once again as the parent company The Michaels Companies was acquired by a venture capital firm called Apollo Global Management.

On sept 29 i went to michaels 50% picture frame sale at the walker rd store in windsor ontario A worker told me i could get the size i wanted rain-checked since it was not in stock. She told me i could call and they would be put aside for me since store does not call rainchecks. They came in on oct 7 so i called and had two put aside for me. We were leaving to go to a hockey game and purses arent allowed. Not thinking we went to michaels for the frames first. We drove all the way to the other side of the city to pick up the frames and i realized i forgot my raincheck. We went in anyway since frames were still on sale this week as well. I politely asked the woman (manager susan) if i pick up my raincheck where she was standing close to online orders. She looked at me like i was crazy and very rudely told me no. So i told her i was told to pick up at front desk but there is no front desk. She was mad that she had to go look for them 10 feet away from where she was standing behind cash. I explained to her i left my raincheck at home but they were put aside for me with my name and i did have ID. Nope, she wouldnt give it to me. I told her, its ok..frames were still on sale. When she scanned them she said in fact they were not. I didnt have time to go back and look bc we were running late for the hockey game. Now drive all the way back to my side of town to go to the game. The next morning, i had to drive all the way to the other side of the city again WITH my raincheck only to find out that in fact, all frames were still on sale this week at 50%. So not only two trips across town to pick up something that was still on sale but having to deal with a rude manager who isnt even aware of the stores advertised sales. I am elderly and dont feel the need to have been treated like that. I have been very irritable since then having been treated like that and having to make a second unneccessary trip. Gas is not cheap these days. Furthermore, i worked retail for many years and have many awards for customer service given to me by my employers head office. I studied the flyer every week so i could knowlegeably answer any customer questions. I was always very pleasant with customers. I never jumped down customers throats. Also i tried to help and please the customer. If they were a regular customer (like me at michaels) and it was obvious i was there for my raincheck, i wouldnt have that customer drive all the way home for a piece of paper for something that was still on sale. Its hard enough finding any customer service in your store and then when you find someone, you get treated like that? I just want you to know i will be putting a very negative review on your website. Furthermore, i will be cancelling my email subscription with michaels because i will not step foot in that store again. Between amazon and walmart, i can get anything there that i could get at michaels. I also can go stateside to pottery barn as im not that far from it . If your workers do not want to work there, hate their job or dont like customers, then they shouldnt work there.
