Hi,

My Telus digital box keeps freezing and is not working properly. I believe restarting the Telus modem may solve the issue, but I’m struggling to do that.

Can anyone explain how to reset a Telus internet modem? What are the steps to reboot it?

Thank you for your help!

Restarting your Telus internet modem is quite easy and can be done in a few steps. The first thing you must do is find the modem or gateway. The gateway refers to when the modem and router are present on the same device. You can typically find the gateway or modem in the utility or electrical room, near the electrical panel in your house, or near the telephone jack.

There are two types of connections on the Telus modem: the DSL and Fibre. There are different restarting processes for these types of connections, so you need to determine which one your modem has. You can contact their customer service team for further assistance if you cannot. Below is an image of a Telus modem. Please note that if you are a Fibre customer, you might have 2 devices, the modem and the ONT. Make sure to reset the modem (it is usually black, while the ONT is usually white):

For the DSL connection, you should assess if the modem’s DSL light is green. If not, check the phone cable and connect it to the wall jack and the modem. Remove the modem from the power source when the light is green and wait thirty seconds. Then, put the plug back in. After this, it will take a minute or two for the modem to reboot. You will then need to check the connection by connecting to the Wi-Fi with your devices.

If you are facing connectivity issues with your Telus modem and have a fibre connection, the modem will show a red light. Before starting the reboot process, be sure to follow precautions when using a fibre connection since it can be dangerous. Ensure that you are pointing the fibre toward the ground. Moreover, don’t touch the electrical panel since it may have a current in it that could shock you.

To restart the modem, press the power button on it. Wait a minute or two, and then switch it off. After a while, you will notice a green light on it. However, if your modem has an SFP (small form-factor pluggable), unplug the cable and wait for a minute. Then, plug it in. The power light will appear, and a green light will appear after a minute or two.
