The company started developing as a family owned company and built its reputation on the invention of the automatic washing machine.The Maytag company was started in 1893 by Fredrick Maytag and introduced the automatic washing machine in 1905. The name Maytag has been synonymous with quality and service throughout the years. The company did have some public backlash after buying Amana Corporation and offering their products under the Maytag name.

The company streamlined production of laundry machines for the public through most of the 20th century. The company also developed kitchen appliances starting in the 1940’s to keep up with larger companies. Maytag grew as demand for high quality laundry and kitchen appliances did. The company constantly improved on their machines and bought out competitors as they continued to thrive as an independent corporation.

Maytag survived as an independent company until, after buying Amana Corporation, and losing money from selling their products, they were purchased by Whirlpool in 2006. The Maytag brand remains in production and is backed by a fantastic warranty. The customer service offered for this brand has been highly touted over the past century with the exception of the early 2000’s. With Whirlpool as the new owner of the Maytag brand, the warranty and customer service continue to improve along with their technology innovations.
